A plastic coating gives metals a thick, wear-resistant finish that excludes water and air from the surface of the metal and so prevents corrosion. The plastic coating is applied mainly by hot-dip coating in a fluidized bed of polymer powder.
Metal components are pretreated, usually degreased and shot-blasted, heated up to between 250 and 400 degrees C depending upon the coating required, then dipped into the Fluid Bed of plastic. The Powder particles melt onto the metalwork forming a smooth continuous coating.
